What Is Shamanic Healing and Is It Right for You
There is a word that gets used a lot in wellness spaces.
Healing.
And yet for many people, there is a quiet sense that the healing they have done so far has not quite reached the thing that actually needs to shift.
They have been to therapy.
They have read the books.
They have tried different practitioners, different modalities, different approaches.
And still, something underneath it all keeps asking for attention.
This is often when people start asking about shamanic healing.
And the most honest thing I can say is: it is not what most people expect.
It is not what you have seen online
Shamanic healing is one of the oldest healing traditions on earth.
It exists across cultures and continents. Indigenous North America. South America. Siberia. Africa. Asia.
Each with its own language and lineage.
But all rooted in something similar.
The understanding that human beings are not separate from the natural world.
That healing happens in relationship. With the body. With the spirit. With what we cannot always see but can feel.
In practice, a shamanic healing session might involve energy work, intention, ritual, sacred tools.
Drums. Sound. Breath.
It looks different every time.
Because the person in front of me is different every time.
What it can help with
People come to this work for many different reasons.
Some come carrying grief that has not had space to move. Not just the grief of losing someone, but the grief of a version of themselves they had to leave behind.
Some come feeling disconnected. Like they are going through the motions but not actually present in their own life. Like something left a long time ago and they have been functioning without it.
Some come after a plant medicine experience that opened something they are still trying to understand.
Or before one, wanting to prepare with intention.
Some come simply knowing that something needs to change and not being able to name what.
All of that is welcome.
It is not a process you follow
This is one of the things that surprises people most.
There is no script.
No fixed sequence.
No predetermined destination.
I am not taking you through a protocol.
I am listening to what is actually happening in you on this particular day, and working with that.
Sometimes the session is emotional.
Sometimes it is surprisingly practical.
Sometimes what you thought you were coming in to address is not where we end up at all.
That is not a mistake.
That is often where the real work is.
Is it right for you?
Shamanic healing asks something of you.
Not expertise. Not preparation. Not the right intention or the right vocabulary.
Just a willingness to be present with what is actually there.
If you are someone who needs a clear protocol and a predictable outcome, this may not be the right fit.
But if you sense that what you are carrying is deeper than a label or a checklist can reach, and you are ready to meet it honestly, this work can go places that other approaches do not.
It tends to work well alongside other things you may already be doing.
Therapy. Somatic work. Coaching.
It is not a replacement for any of those.
It addresses the layer underneath them.
